Character Name: Talindel Brightdawn
Character Age: 117 College Affiliation: Student, College of Science and Medicine Character Synopsis: Talindel is a very cynical, blunt, and borderline irreverent engineering student at the Academy. A former member of the Sunfury blood elves, he knows that he can only truly rely on himself and his creations when times are difficult. Physical Description: Talindel is of average height for a sin'dorei, but with a stockier build than is normal. His long, reddish-brown hair is almost always tied in a messy ponytail, and it is not unusual to see soot or grease streaking his face, hair, and/or clothing. There is a long, thin scar running down the left side of his face, starting at his forehead and running down to his chin. His preferred clothing tends to be practical, simple, sturdy clothing with an abundance of small pockets, and it is a very rare event for him not to have at least some basic engineering tools in a pouch on his belt. Behavior/Personality: Talindel is not afraid to say what needs to be said, and he will say it in the most direct way possible. He is not the most polite of people--he has no problem interrupting someone if he feels he needs to do so to get someone's attention, nor does he see anything wrong with raising his voice and/or resorting to profanities if he needs to do so to get his point across. He has a tendency to mutter to himself when working on a project--whether it be actually working in the Academy's workshop, or merely sketching, writing notes, and/or mentally working through a problem while walking. When he's actively working on a project or attempting to solve a problem, he tends to focus on that task to the point of ignoring everything around him, and it usually takes a lot to draw his attention away from whatever it is he's working on. Strengths: Talindel is very intelligent. He quickly grasps new concepts and ideas, particularly if said concepts deal with engineering or architecture. He has a very strong sense of self-discipline--both in regards to personal habits and in completing whatever projects he is currently working on. While he does not consider many people to be his friends, he is fiercely loyal to them and willing to help them out any way that he can. Weaknesses: Talindel's tendency towards rudeness and irreverence has earned him more than a few enemies over the last few years. His ability to focus so intently on whatever he's working on has caused him to completely miss warning signs of imminent trouble. Not just little things, either--noticeable signs that most people would immediately pick up on. It takes a long time for him to cool off if something truly angers him, and if someone betrays his trust in any way he will hold a grudge against that person for a very long time. Character History: Talindel was born and raised in Silvermoon City. He was not an only child--he was the third of four brothers. Even at a young age, he showed a certain knack for building things and working with his hands, and his parents--both accomplished architects and builders--fostered this by teaching Talindel everything they could about their trades. After he came of age, he decided to follow in his parents' footsteps and work as a carpenter in the city. Immediately after the conclusion of the First War, Talindel met a quel'dorei that had spent several years in the human kingdoms, one that was adept at building various engineering devices--mostly explosives and small, harmless trinkets. The two became fast friends, and Talindel eagerly learned what he could about engineering from him. When the orcs and trolls invaded Quel'Thalas during the Second War, Talindel assisted by crafting explosives and ammunition for use against the invaders. After the war, he assisted in the rebuilding efforts--and grieved the loss of his friend at the same time, as he was called to active duty and killed during the war. He agreed with his people's decision to withdraw from the Alliance, as he was among those that felt as though that the humans and their allies had abandoned the quel'dorei during their time of need. During the Siege of Silvermoon, Talindel attempted to help defend the city in the best way that he could--namely, by tossing various explosives at the Scourge from atop a building. Unfortunately, that came to an abrupt stop when the building he was standing on collapsed. He abruptly found himself trapped in the rubble and unable to do anything more, but on the flip side him getting buried in debris kept him from getting killed by the Scourge. After he was rescued, he discovered that both of his parents and two of his three siblings were killed during the siege. Talindel joined Kael'thas and his troops immediately after the siege. He did not work on the front lines--rather, he contributed by helping to craft explosives and other items that Kael's forces needed. He was present during the maneuvers that led to the blood elves' imprisonment in Dalaran for treason, as well as the events in Outland and Northrend that followed after they were able to escape the Dalaran prisons. Talindel returned to Outland along with Kael'thas, Illidan, and the rest of the forces following their defeat in Icecrown. He was ordered to report to the Mechanar to assist with efforts there. For a time, he gladly did just that. For a time, he was content--he was able to work with his own people again, using his talents to help the cause, and not having to worry about the mana-addiction due to having sources readily available to tap when needed. Unfortunately, this all changed when he realized there were demons stationed in the Mechanar as well, and that he was expected to work with them. Something about the idea just didn't sit with him well at all, so he snuck out of the Mechanar and away from Tempest Keep--and indeed, all the rest of the Sunfury holdings in Netherstorm--as soon and as quietly as possible. Some time later, Talindel found himself at Shattrath City. There, he learned that Kael'thas had apparently entered into an alliance with the Burning Legion and that several people, including the sin'dorei known as the Scryers, were actively working to stop him. He was careful not to do or say anything to give himself away as a member of the Sunfury, but quietly listened as he did odd jobs in Shattrath for a time. When it became known that Kael'thas had returned to Quel'Danas to attempt to use the Sunwell to summon Kil'jaeden, and when the Shattered Sun Offensive was formed in response, Talindel offered his services to the organization. He traveled to Quel'Danas, and was one of several craftsmen stationed there. He primarily spent his time crafting explosives that were used in the Offensive's numerous bombing runs, although he did assist with other projects as needed. Talindel finally returned to Silvermoon City after the Offensive's victory in Quel'Danas. For a time, he again did odd jobs as he got used to being back in the rebuilt city and away from everything that happened in recent years. When the Silvermoon Academy reopened, he applied and was accepted as an engineering major with the College of Science and Medicine. Due to his expertise with explosives and prior engineering knowledge in general, he was able to test out of the first two years' worth of classes. Character Perspective: Talindel is not overly fond that the sin'dorei are a part of the Horde; however, he does accept the situation for what it is and will do whatever he can to help--even if it's only building explosives to be used on the various fronts. He figures that, while not an ideal situation for his people, it's a lot better than being allied with the treacherous humans--or worse, still following Kael'thas and his goals after his betrayal. His view of the world tends to be rather cynical as a result of his experiences, and he has a difficult time believing that good things can happen without any strings attached. Similarly, he finds it very difficult to believe in the Light or the spirits or anything along those lines--while clerics, paladins, druids, and shaman can call upon the elements or the Light or the forces of nature, Talindel views all of these merely as things to be bent to one's will, rather than forces that can potentially exert an influence on people by their mere existence. Likes: Engineering, bourbon, bananas, goblins, staying up late at night, verbal sparring matches with other people Dislikes: Boredom, people that can't just say whatever's on their mind, strawberries, being forced to dress up for whatever reason, major engineering mishaps, red wine, overly preachy people Character Level: 85 Character Professions: Goblin engineering/Mining Character Spec: Assassination/Combat |
