College LoreThe founding capstone of the Academy, the College of Magistry is as old as the school itself. It was founded by a collective of six great magisters -- two of whom were the legendary mages Falthrien and Duskwither -- and dedicated to the proper containment and education of the Arcane.
Though the College of Magistry never allied entirely with the Kirin Tor mageocracy, several High Elf magisters went on to study in the Violet City. Knowledge was shared between the schools of magistry; in time, the graduates from the College of Magistry began to spread their knowledge of the Arcane to lesser races such as Humans, Gnomes and Dwarves.
The Sunstrider Dynasty gave heavy funding to the College of Magistry, citing it as a bastion for proper education on the Arcane. When Prince Kael'thas bestowed a final contribution of land, buildings and money to the Academy, the College of Magistry honored him by making the Sunstrider influence part of the entire Academy's legacy. The school colors -- originally cerulean and white -- took on the third color of Sunstrider gold. The shield-and-wand crest was changed; now it adopted a twin-headed Phoenix in blazing white. Oddly enough, the Prince never studied at the Academy. He seemed bidden to attend the academies in Dalaran, though he often spoke highly of the Academy to his compatriots.
When the Human betrayal of the Prince struck loathing into the heart of many High Elves, the Academy ceased all relations with Human and Dwarven organizations. Many educating elves were called home from Stormwind and Ironforge.
Arthas' Siege of Silvermoon left the Academy in ruins, and with it the College of Magistry. Many esteemed professors and alumni were slaughtered by the Scourge. With the Sunwell tainted and ruined, the arcanists and magisters struggled against the overwhelming withdrawal from the Arcane.
Following the two-year reconstruction, the College of Magistry has reawakened upon the cleansing and healing of the Sunwell and Quel'thalas. Yet, in a controversial move, Magister Summercrest took charge of the college and declared it a haven for more than just Arcanists. Practitioners of Fel magic and holy Light magic were now welcomed among their ranks.
What to Expect with the College of MagistryRenowned for its rigorous courses and unyielding worldload, the College of Magistry is not for just any middling mage. Students are expected to master an astronomical amount of information in just five years.
Is the College of Magistry the Right Fit for your Character?Whether you're a mage aspiring to join the Kirin Tor, or a Blood Knight longing to embrace the true Light, the College of Magistry is an ancient bastion of learning for magical studies. Characters who have strong ties to magistry, magework, Felcrafting, demonic summoning, harnessing the Light, Shadow, or Arcane, and so forth might find the College of Magistry to be a decent fit.
While the College of Magistry accepts the value of arms, weaponry, and the power of cold steel, it does not accept any would-be spellcasters who are not capable of harnessing mana. Blades and battering rams are better placed in the College of Arms.
It should be noted that your character doesn't have to stay within the college forever or even has to graduate (although dropping out from an academic standpoint should be the last resort!); transfers into other colleges are possible.
